Cathedral Lake

Cathedral Lake

The drive to Tuolumne Meadows, Yosemite is a minimum of 5 hours from our house. Add to that a 3 hour hike, a bit of sitting around, another hike and another drive and you get 18 hours door-to-door. That’s how long it took us to capture this picture.

We think it was worth it.

You can buy this print here if you agree. We recommend the metal option.

The idea for the long drive was not actually to make this picture. It was to capture a star circle but as you can see, there we’re a lot of clouds. So the following weekend we did the exact same hike and this time got the shot we wanted. Of course, sitting around in the dark for many hours takes its toll, and so the final tally was 25 hours door-to-door. Not really a good idea.

Having got the photo we wanted, we played with the MilkyWay too. These aren’t great but they are the first time we’ve capture the ‘way touching the Earth at both ends. We’re please.

Gorgeous!! I didn’t find that hike “short”, and it was hard for me too at times. Especially carrying a full pack. It was as you said, ” rewarding”!

Did you guys camp up there too?

I didn’t scramble up to get this view. I see I missed out and need to go back! What a view!

nah we hiked up, waited for sunset, shot the milky way, and hiked back out about 3am. I’m confused how you found this page, it’s not supposed to be visible. Damn this internet thing is hard!

Thank you! I was under the impression that when I added a picture to the main page it didn’t turn up on the blog. I now see that I’m wrong. Lesson Learned.

Come on, talk to us!
