The Star Circle Academy recently invited Eric and I to burn some stuff for them. And so on a warm Friday evening, 20 people climbed down on to the beach in Santa Cruz and proceeded to make mayhem. Steel wool (wire wool if you’re British), magnesium, lighter (BBQ) fluid, flash lights (torches), and all manner of strange devices were used to create long exposure effects.
We made all the attendees sign a waiver in case they got injured in some way we couldn’t imagine, and then to everyone’s delight, we went out of our way to injure them.
Imagine 20 people huddled closely together on the sand, forming a perfect circle. Now place a crazy dude (Eric) at the center of the circle and ask him to start throwing burning metal at the people. It’s a great mental image right?
Except we did it for real.
And just in case the cynical of you thinks that the image doesn’t look too dangerous. Look closely at the chap standing at 11 o’clock getting rained on.
Or this one that just missed me.
Or, even worse, this one. This landed on my flare hood and actually melted it a little. Oops. I didn’t even sign a waiver!
Here’s two other shots from the evening where we were using the very dangerous magnesium. Don’t try this at home kids.
Come on, talk to us!
