My pictures are being used in odd places.
I took the above picture a while ago. There’s quite the story associated with it, which you can read over on my Flickr if you’re so inclined. Anyway, I facetiously called the picture “smoke and drinking is cool kids”. Mostly I did it to piss off my sister as her kids sometimes bump in to my photos.
There’s an evil advertising website out there that wants you to smoke. They have robot that crawls the net looking for positive cigarette endorsements and automatically adds them to a “news” feed. And that children, is how I ended up on the front page of SmokingEveryPlace.com. I’m sure I won’t be on the front for long, but for now, I’m a poster child.
Guess I’m going to hell.
The marketing lesson here is that if you want your pictures to be found, give them names, tag them, send them to groups and don’t do what I see way too often, and leave the filename as “110625_0241.jpeg”.
Given that this is a photo blog I should probably tell you how I made the picture look so very groovy. Lots of time I spend hours with all the buttons, dials and knobs in Photoshop trying to get just the look I want. But when the picture is just a throw away like this one, I cheat. There’s a plugin you can buy called Topaz Details. It’s amazing. I highly recommend it. This is their Spicy filter dialed back to 60%.
Pretty impressive for a one click operation.
