One of the nice things about light painting is that as long as you’re not a purest (a straight from the camera kinda guy) you get all sorts of options in post processing that are often surprising.
I’ve been working on some new light painting tools. I thought they were done and so took them out for a spin this evening. I was wrong. They failed horribly. The UI sucked in the dark. The robustness left a lot to be desired. And the weight was way too excessive. That said, I did catch a few throw-away shots that I’ll post here for your amusement.
Basically there all the same set up. The camera never moved. The model wiggle delightfully. And I ran around painting like a mad fool while the camera took repeated 30 second exposures.
And this is where being a Photoshop user helps. I get to choose which of those shots get layered together to make the final image. Given that these aren’t going to hang on a wall any time soon, I post them all here for your (dis)-pleasure.
One other thing for the strobists. There’s a full size umbrella model left, about 6ft in the air pointing down set at half power. The flash is timed for rear-sync.
And of course, with a little blur, and a lot of saturation and hue adjustment you can really make people feel ill…
