Thomas David recently made a storm of news by throwing flour around and capturing it as it danced. Seemed like a fine way of spending a Saturday night, so we did the same.
Convincing Deanna to cover herself in flour and jump around was easier than you’d think.
However, it’s taken her two trips to the shower to get the goo out of her hair but she’s almost forgiven me now. A few more glasses of wine, and I think we’ll be back on speaking terms. The garage will however remain trashed for some time.
It was actually much harder than I thought. I know I’ve previously boasted that I now understand off-camera flash, which is still true. But what became apparent during this shoot is that knowing and doing are very different beasts.
The setup was simple. At the rear left was speedlight bouncing out of a silver umbrella. To the rear right was another speedlight shooting through a white umbrella. And finally, up front aimed at the head, was a third speedlight with a small grid to keep the light in one place.
The results aren’t as good as Tom’s but I’m mighty pleased.
Come on, talk to us!
